A balanced diet is important for our general health and wellness, and it’s no different when it comes to nourishing our brain.

The foods that we choose to eat play a crucial role in boosting our brain's performance.

Some of our favourite foods for a thriving brain include:

  1. Oily fish: Salmon, tuna, anchovies and other oily fish are a fabulous source of Omega 3 fatty acids which are promising in improving cognitive function and decreasing the risk of cognitive decline
  2. Berries: Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are packed full of antioxidants which can reduce brain damage caused by free-radicals and improve brain function
  3. Leafy greens: Green vegetables such as spinach and kale are a great source of vitamin K, which can amplify neurotransmitter production, leading to improved brain function. Leafy greens are also a great source of B vitamins, which play a crucial role in the functioning of our nervous system (these vitamins are also found in whole-grains, red meat and poultry).
  4. Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds (among others) are high in magnesium, which has been shown to improve mood
  5. Chocolate: Dark chocolate is also a great source of antioxidants which help to protect against oxidative stress. We bet you’re happy that chocolate made the list?!
